The Book Deal Course

You want to write a book that changes people's lives.

You dream about getting a lucrative book deal with a publisher.

You don't know how to get a book deal, but you're willing to learn, roll up your sleeves, and put in the work.

You need: Book Deal Camp.

What is Book Deal Camp? It's a joyful, inspiring program for people who want to write a book.

✨ Come up with a genius book idea

✨ Create a winning book proposal

✨ Meet with a literary agent and pitch your idea

✨ Build confidence in your writing skills

✨ Achieve a lifelong goal

By the end of The Book Deal Course, what's the final result that you will have?

At the end of The Book Deal Course, you will have:

  • A clear concept for your book with all the important details figured out: title, topic, message, audience, tone, point of view, and a list of what readers will find inside.

  • An excellent book proposal (10-30 page document) that's ready to share with literary agents and publishers. This proposal explains what your book is about, why you're the right person to write this particular book, a summary of everything you intend to cover inside, a promotional plan, and more.

  • A sample of your book manuscript (4,000 to 7,000 words) that's ready to share with literary agents and publishers, and an outline for the rest of your manuscript, too.

  • A thorough understanding of how the publishing industry works and what to expect as an author at each phase in the process.

  • Greater confidence in your writing abilities. "I believe I have something valuable to share." "I know my book will make a difference in someone's life." "I can do this."

Lindsey Smith

Lindsey Smith is a best-selling and award-winning author, a literary agent, and founder of One Idea Press.

Her most recent book, Eat Your Feelings, won the Silver Award at the Living Now Book Awards, sold more than 10,000 copies, was translated into 3 languages, and was released by Macmillian, one of the top 5 publishing houses in the world.

As a literary agent, her passion is securing book deals for under-represented voices including people of color, LGBTQIA+ authors, women, and other voices that have historically been shut out of the publishing industry. Most recently, she secured a book deal for Robert Turner for his book, Everyday Reparations.

Lindsey has delivered a TEDx Talk and has given an official talk at Google. She’s been featured in O, The Oprah Magazine and many other media outlets.

As a publisher, a few of Lindsey’s favorite projects include The Zodiac Love Letters by Heidi Rose Robbins, Dear Strong Black Woman by Jennifer Sterling, and Queen of Stones, an oracle card deck created by Peachie Wimbush-Polk (who happens to be Wiz Khalifa’s mom!).

When it comes to the publishing industry, Lindsey has worked in every single role: author, editor, agent, and publisher.

She understands both sides of the table—being an author and seeking a book deal, and being a publisher and deciding which authors to choose. She knows what publishers are looking for in 2022 and how to stand out and secure a deal.

A note from Alex and Lindsey

Dear future author,

Writing a book is a life-changing experience.

Becoming an author opens so many doors. It can lead to new clients, paid speaking engagements, media appearances, and much more. On top of that, it's so emotionally satisfying to hold the finished book in your hands! One of the best feelings in the world.

Between the two of us, we've written more than 13 books, and we've helped our clients write hundreds more.

Why do we love books so much?

Because a book can change someone's life or even save a life.

Your book might help someone get unstuck, achieve a goal, cry and heal, laugh out loud, or simply feel less alone in this chaotic world.

We hope you will join us for The Book Deal Course.

We teach you how to create an exceptional book proposal and show you exactly how to get a book deal.

Our greatest hope is that The Book Deal Course shifts the way you feel about yourself.

We want you to say to yourself:

“I am a real writer.”

“My ideas can make a difference in people’s lives.”

"Someone out there needs to hear my story."

"I can become a published author."

"This is completely doable.”
